September 30 Catching a coldMy body temperature went beyond 38 degreeds. Suffering from haedache, stomachache, and muscle pains all over my body; undoubtedky I cought a cold for the first time in recent a few years. I have nothing to eat with me, but no enrgy to go out for a meal. Luckily the medicine seemed to work well, still far from my ususal health though. September 28 The End Is the Beginning of Another End.In life, chances are that even you are higly convinced of making a progress, and even you do proceed, there may only be deadend in your direction. To climb, dig, jump, break, or merely turn around, whichever option you choose, they should be painfully either or both pisically and mentally. Nevertheless, must be better than waiting for some one or something just in front of the wall, isn't it? September 23 Only yesterdayRecently everything around my computer seems to go wrong. Starnge noises, uncontrolable mouse and key board, ultra slow internet connection of my accomodation, etc, etc. It might have been a good chance to get rid of my aimless and fruitless life routine; . Now I can say that definitely I am an internet addict. The remedy for this situation is just switching off the machine and kicking out of my obsession like "I might recieve a very important e-mail!" or "A great earthquake might strike my home!",,,,,,,undoubtedly non-sense. Only relieving point with my symptom is that I have never interested in playing on-line games!!> Thinking like that, I am still spending my time with my mac for writing this. I suddenly notice almost 2 weeks have passed since I arrived here, and 1 month since my travel to China. Both are as if what happened only yesterday to me, though. Walking, eating, drinking sleeping, and thinking of someone or something, time passes on me whatever I do. I have already noticed that the feeling is nothing special, besides it bears no fruit. The best way to waste my time is regretting wasted times, I know, I know. Yet I cannot help thinking like this as I got a phone call from my mother, informing she had really nice time in France with her old friend, and she wants me to celebrate her birthday. Yes, it is her birthday today, thus, my next birthday is coming. Trying to remember what I've done this year, whom I met, what I learned, what I gained, and what I lost. Then, the time flows. So that not to finish today wastefully, I would like to say happy birthday to my mom here. September 16 Impressions of the first weekThe first week has already finished. Even I am nothing familier with matrix algebra nor integrals, it seems that I could somehow catch up the lectures, hopefully! To make myself sure about the new life here, I would like to show a list of comparison, Essex vs UEA.
Location; Norwich definitely much nicer than Colchester, at least to me. City centre is lively, picturesque cathedrals and parks are around,,besides the people here seem to be more kind and relaxed, although my bike has already stolen from the shelter!!
Transportation; Obviouly, Colchester has a big advantage about the transportation, from and to London. Though it is nothing impossible, go and return from London to Norwich in a day is a tiresome task. However, when it comes to the access between the station and campus, still UAE has an advantage. Bus starts every 5 or 10 minutes from the campus, and you can catch a bus even at midnight.
Cost; I miss Colchester TESCO,,,,,,,TESCO here costs almost twice as in Colchester!!!!! In addition campus shops here are really expensive and poor in the range of good sold. Therefore, still Essex should be better in terms of cost of living.
Education; I cannot make any comparison in education, as the course I took and I am taking now is complete defferent. Just suppose not that different.
Facilities;Sports centre here is said to be one of the best over the country. I am not sure whether it is true or not, but it is true that most of campus buildings are relatively cleaner. Moreover, the structure here is further less confusing, unlike the Essex LABYRINTH.
Accomodation; I am sensible enough not to compare AVONWAY and my accomodation here directly. Even when I compare this accomodation to ensuite flats in Essex, i.e. South courts, still a bit better since at least it is quite new. By the way, all the residents in my flat are East Agians for some reason,,,,,,I assume it may be the university policy so that they can avoid desputes between students from completely different cultual back grounds. I don't know it is good thing or not.
Above is all I can tell at the moment. Even the evidencesseem to show that UEA might have a bit of advantage, it may change later after I get used to the life here. Or, it might be just because I want to justify my decision to study here, sacrificing a comfortable life with a familiar environment and good friends. September 02 Do you remember?[Do you remember the 21st day of September?]
You may hear Earth Wind and Fire singing the song, SEPTEMBER, at least once on the local radio station in my hometown. Even though the song is nothing to do with the 1st of September and moreover, actualy the story is set in DECEMBER, no one cares that here! Anyway, finally September comes and cold rain has been celebrating new season here from early in the morning. A TV programme said that food consumption in Japan peaks at September, maybe because it is the month of harvest. We went to a Japanese restaurant yesterday, and EXAMINED THE HYPOTHESIS to our herats content!!! And it was a really great opportunity to compare the similarity and difference between Japanese and Chinese cuisine. In short, the biggest differense between these two will be the attitudes for materials and seasoning. Japanese cooks persue the quality of materials, and very often, to them the best materials for cooking are something edible without cooking or seasoning!!!( sounds ironically though.) So, one of the most important part in their training period is MEKIKI (judjement on the freshness of fish and vegetables), and about the arts of cooking, the most important part will be the handling of cooking knives, rather than how to season. At the end, not only for foreign people, but for Japanese people, SASHIMI and SUSHI occupy special place as the spreme among Japanese dishes. Whereas, in my understanding, Chinese cuisine is systemized as an art of heating and seasoning. Controling cooking heater can be the most important technique, and how to prepare materials can be more important than how to find them. In another words Japnese look for the best fruit of the season, while Chinese persue the best way to eat fruits of the season. This difference may Japanese cuisine monotonious in comparison to Chinese cuisine, even the menu is always changing in a Japanese restaurant as the season goes. Anyway I love all kind of food as lon as it tastes good, then one of the biggest concerns of me is HOW TO SURVIVE IN UK without authentic Japanese nor Chinese cuisine!!!! The day comes after a week. |
