June 30 愛別離苦?The 5th agony in life; you have to be separated from whom you love deeply when the time has come.Even if you are not a keen Buddist, this concept may be highly acceptable. Now the time is coming to me. I have to leave now.But even I am at the point of separation, I am curiously a bit sceptic against this concept of agony for the first time in my life. If I had made no meaningful relationship with anyone, I would not have any feeling of separation;thus, it should be nothing painful but a glorious thing. In addition, I take it for granted. Born alone and die alone can be the life, but we can still share a lot in the middle of somewhere. And what we share is permanent, however much we are forgetful, however quick the time passes. So, why should I feel pain from the separation? June 28 Unlucky day.I thought that today would end up with a lot of fufillment; much effort and joy of preparing BBQ staff, nice time with my people, and occasional contribution to my friend's recovery from a letahl situation,,,but what comes after was nothing but a dawnting disappointment.I had to send an important document to the embassy, and I did send that. But the mail delivery service didn't. Moreover, the failure message was delivered to me some hours later!! It means, I have to give up to go to the embassy and collect that document before I leave here. All my effort made turned to be in vain. Only a day is difficult to be ended up with a sponnful of subtle fulfillment. What about a life? June 25 Gone away.Successfully booking my ticket, now I'm ready to fly back. I have packed 90% of my belongings here, and 80% of them are now stored in K's room (thanks for your cooperation!).Every single process of moving seems to make me rather SENTIMENTAL. Remembering how I've got so many useless things in my tiny room, and a pile of books to be read,,,I should somehow send them back, too! These personal belongings are sometimes monuments of my OVER_EXCITEMENT ( i.e. empty resolutions such as finish reading 10 books a day in English!) or BITTER CAUTIONS to remind me of my cureless stupidity; how I behaved CHILDISH, how I lost so many chances which I can never encounter again, and how I TORTUED someoneelse's feeling!! Now's the time to use my mind, get what I've learned into pracitice, the summer passes at a LIGHTNING SPEED again, next academic year will pass the fastest ever.NOW is the smallest unit of time;therefore, every NOW is shorter than any other moments of the PAST or the non-existing FUTURE. NOW is too short and precious to waste in a sentiment. Now' it's gone away. June 21 Canned Heat!Just briefly, about the match of England against Sweden yesterday;it was not that bad game in the first half, but it turns to be very idle in the last half. Then, the excitement of people around was just lukewarm unlike the sweltering condition of the bar. I could somehow feel a 'matured' football culture; not much like a feast of nationalists, less sentimental but critical. However still the audiences were much more modest than I expected, taking it into account that watching football on campus with security stewards is rather different from watching it on hangouts of fulegans. My assumption is that as some caution goes, the corruption of the 'football bubble' is coming closer,,,especially if they make the World Cup biannual, this end would be inevitable. Anyway, a lot of thanks to my friends for the good time!! June 18 疲労困憊。A simple, then could also be a philosophical question:Why people call London UNDERGROUND as under-ground while it's NOT running UNDER the GROUND? It goes without saying anything about ZONE2-4, even in not few areas in ZONE1, the rails come out from the underground. So I assume this is why they are not in good service around these area. In order to avoid the contradiction, they stop running trains OVERground. As a result I had to change train 3 times and catch a taxi so that I could take a job interview in time. Here is another question:why they named circle line as circle line while it never runs in a circle? Thanks to that I was sitting a train of opposite bound believing that trains to both direction take me to my destination anyway, since it's a CIRCLE. Unfortunately, the circle seems to have a gap in between and due to this I wasted my 30 minutes. Even though I've been feeling exhausted since my travel on underground started, I have to go through the same (,or even worse for tomorrow is Sunday!) difficulties to take a job interview with CEO of the company. June 16 Keep on magging me!!I dare not join the short travel to Norwich, partly because I'm gonna stay there for 12 months during next acdemic year, and partly because to do things like preparation for job fair or visiting police to sign up some document. Some document,,,,,yes it was a DOCUMENT in a sense, but I believe British people do not call that kind of paper a DOCUMENT but as a TAG!! The story was something like this; I arrived there around 11:30, the time I usualy recieve calls from officers in charge. So I personally believed ( just assumed though!) that would be the best timing since everytime I called back after morning classes ( around 1-2 pm), no one answered me, and a message required me to call on police department before $ o'clock because they are off duty after that time. Then, the office at reseption's answer were, "I'm sorry but could you come back here at 2 o'clock?" I should have said no, or shouldn't,,,I don't know! But anyway I went to the town center and tried my best to KILL MY TIME ( one of the most detestable concept for me,,,killing my time is killing myself!!) by taking photos for my resume, looking for some guidebooks for vacation and trying to finish reading (in vain) 'el Aleph' in Spanish. Finally, my patience came to the limit around 1:40 and it was 1:50 when I appeared police again. I explained completly the same story why I had to be there,,,( the person at reception had already changed!) , and agin the answer was 'Please wait for a minute till the officer in charge comes back.' Now that I understand that Japanese punctuality is definitely not a virtue but rather a vice.So I appreciated their point, ofcourse with a considerable disapointment. It's obviously useless to give readers a detail of HOW I WAS FEELING and WHAT I WAS THINKING against this ultra efficient bureaucracy of Britain.(I'm not worryng about being accused of a denigration against public servants, no!)
But anyway I had to wait for extra 40 minutes to be called. Then, the mission I should accomplish was just SIGN on the TAG. As the officer explained 'Don't worry it takes only 2 seconds!' after I wasted 4 hours (including buss travel). No energy remained to ask him why they didn't give me the DOCUMENT when they took my jacket( it was a tag for my jacket's identification) nor why they should called me 5 times a week to summon me,,,,,But at least I can say that the case turns to be a magging from an assault:I have waste at least 5 quids and 12 hours for the case!! Victims are victims, and neither police authorities nor judicial authorities could compensate the loss which criminals cause. June 14 於「漢」酒家The best dinner I've had since I came here, surrounded by my friends and quite good dishes, too! Even though I could understand less than 5% of what they were talking about, with fatal lack of listening complehention ability, I was remembering that I used to have dinner with my family and our friends in that way.Unfortunately, in my country we are losing such a nice moment of life especially for us, the urban beings. Just hope that at least my friends will be having such nice moments in the future as well, and we realize again how precious these moments are. June 13 Take me out to the ball game,,,?So many people repeated the phrase, "Japanese football players are phisically inferior to players of other national teams." Possibly, true. However, they have mental disadvantages as well, and that disadvantage can be more serious, I can tell from today's match. As I wrote yesterday, what is imporant is confidense and now I think it can be sustained by a strong mind and enormous efforts. Otherwise, one will never be able to make the most of a chanse, even when the chanse is in his hand. June 12 Look Before Leap<>Leap Before LookThen, which is the TRUTH? It is obvious that if you don't want to be a sheat of pan-cake spread on the ground, you have to look carefully before you jump. But what about in case that you have to jump anyway? You have no way out on your behind nor both sides, and the threat is coming closer and closer,,,you might have no time to think twice before you leap off the cliff, and if you had, it will make you too scared to leap. Consequently, your life will be terminated by the threat. This is the thing. I read a book about paradoxes and complexities some years ago. Now I,m not sure about what the exact content was but still I can remember that there are so often complete antinomes of well-known proverbs. For example,"A good beginning makes a good ending" has "All's well that ends well" as its pair."All things come to him who waits" may be contradict "Ask and you shall receive",,,,,,,,the person may not be considered to be a heretic if he waits before asking though! Moreover, in the book, the author conducted an experiment. Asking his students whether some pairs of proverbs he had shown exsisted or not. There were some proverbs used in actual situation, latter half of them were just the examiner's inventions generated by reversing the meaning of some REAL proverbs; just like LEAP BEFORE LOOK. The result was that students regarded both existing proverbs and invented proverbs as TRUE ones.Another interesting thing is that these phrases I quoted above are apparently contradict each other, but not necessarily opposite in their logical value. You can make both good beginning and good ending if you're lucky enough, and may say' it was good from beginning to the end'.In this case, both proverbs are telling the TRUTH. In the latter case, you can wait after you ask, or you can wait(or hesitate?) before asking till you heart content. In each case then the meanig is ' you have to make a good ending' and 'you have to recieve something',,,so straight forward but merciless. But once these remarks are given in the form of a proverb (or aphorism) they sound like magic spells and a person may feel relieved when he encounters these phrases with a hint of 'wisdom'. Then, the question comes back to the first examples. In both forms, I have to leap regardless I look or not.If the original one was 'Don't leap before look', I could have a chance to avoid leaping off ( and don't TOUCH THE SKY).But anyway it mandates me to LEAP. And in both cases, the use of look carefully or just ignore how high the cliff seems to be is just make the leaper confident. So this is the lesson. I have to DO things at the end of the day, and doing things is different from thinking about things or making up one's mind to do. Just DO and become CONFIDENT what I've done, that will be the all proverbs mean, I guess. Then, proverbs never guarntee for the result of what I've done., still stay confident will do something though. June 06 Feeling busy, doing nothing,,,,,,So nothing to write here basically,,,,,,However, just briefly, I'm gonna introduce you an interesting article from Financial Times of 2nd June. On the cover, there can been seen a picture of Egyptian gentleman. The title says, ISLAMIC FINANCING;Top scholar hails boom.Mr. Hussein Hamid Hassan, an islamic scholar and entrepreneur who established an Islamic bank for the first time welcomes the boom of business and finance all over Middle East nations and the involvement of foreign industries to his business as well.FT explains this boom is supported by a soaring price of crude oil and reinforcement of religious identity among Muslims in post 911 world. He added up the example of foreign countries involved in his business like Russia, Japan, China,,,and even United States. Interestingly, I can assume his big success is one result of globalization, but one form of anti-Americanization.There is nothing to say the driving factor mentioned above, the failure (could be said a partial success) of Americanization raised local( including ethnic, religional, racial etc) identity and led other nations a chance to launch their own business, even they first imitate or get involved the business of US. Now so many US based companies' acitivities are beyond the control of US government;US policies may be bound by industries, but industries seem not to be bound by policies.Consequentry, many countries were capitalized but not necessarily Americanized.Furthermore, the movement of globalization now seems to be heading for a separation of US in a sense, so in a sense, it's an anti-Americanization.Interestingly, a similar thing can be seen in accounting world. The grobal accounting standard was thought to be integrated in to US standard, hwoever, International Accounting Standard (IAS) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is doing well, actually better than I expected.According to Holt and Hein (2001) there was no generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in Islamic countries where basically activities like MAKING MONEY ON MONEY is prohibited. However, the situation has changed and now Islamic nations have entered a full-scale finacial age, as is reffered to above and it is not difficult to assume that Muslims may prefer adapting IFRS to US GAAP in order to match the needs for accounting standards.Another example, is China. Also from Holt and Hein (2001),Chinese companies can issue their share to foreign investors (B share companies) should report their financial statement not in the socialist way of accounting but in a way foreigners can understand and compare. This time agian, IFRS is adopted as a framework. Ofcourse there are countries still persist on their own accounting standard (Japan is undoubtedly an example, and maybe the Netherlands as well), though, they may reluctantly commit the convergence of IAS, and there will be a considerable possibility of European countries and even Japan to adjust their GAAP to IFRS. On the other hand, the United States boasts its own GAAP and it's far less probable for them to adapt IFRS.Consequently, there will be a gap of GAAP between super economic powers of this century, at least China, Russia, and US. This situation suddenly resembles me the story about Kyoto protocol. In both cases, US seems to be becoming an autistic aloner. But the history tells that will not be that good idea to make the country isolated, since it could be a natural caramety, even everything with the country seems untolerable. Especially the risk of complete separation may be far from a favorable thing to Japan, a substancial state of the US. ( refference; Financial Times 2nd June, Holt and Hein (2001) 'International Accounting ', Wikipedia accessed 5th June 2006) June 02 顛末Just briefly, I'm gonna explain how I was mugged by thugs.I was walking down Avon Way from campus to my room. When I came across to the entrance of my accomodation, there could see 3 hoodies chatting something. Suddenly, one of them came to me and take off ear phones from me. The first thing he said was "Give me ya money!" He was an agitated white teenager, with a scent of alcohol and sadly was risking his future by forming overt criminal offence. He was short and weak enough to be ignored, then I did ignore him. But he grabbed my jumper on the hood and tried to take my control in vain. I holded his arms and asked him "Why should I pay that?" "Because I want ya money!!".My answer to this absurd argument was another question; " Does it make any sense?" First he gave up to argue with me, just repeating,"Give ya money! Clear ya pocket!" I just ignore and tried to go back to my room with dragging him. Secondly, he seemed to give up to take control of me, and just tried to take my bag. Again he couldn't ,since he couldn't shake his arms free from my hands. Finally, he gave up forming mugging, and determined to commit assault instead. He used his head, literally his head, he made a surprise head-bat on my cheek so that he could free from my control. I was hardly surprised, but let him go. And thought nothing of revenge,,,,,I have almost no idea about British criminal law and couldn't predict what would happen as a result of an 'unproper' self deffence.
He ran away from me to his company, yelling some unclear insulting words on me. After I stuck my middle finger and called him a 'bottom-feeder white trash', I met a security officer. In this way, my long night began,,,,,,I repeat these detailes at least 4 times to securities or the investigator. When I finally came back to my room with dizzying head by lack of sleep and screeming stomach by lack of dinner, it had been 2:00 AM already. Still I can say I'm luccky in many points, but this time I feel strongly that I was victimized. And to my dear friends to stay here on, I'd like to say that never ever think here of a SAFE place!
Especially for aloners,,,,,,,,I really hope next place to be aloner-friendly, or I should change my behavior to walk such long distance with no company.
Oooops, just now police officers came to me and took one of my favorite hoodtops for fornsic investigations!!!(Damage accumulates) |
